Industrial archeology overlooking a splendid coastline, Buggerru was born from a mining village and lies in the wildest coast of the island. In the surroundings of the town there is a suggestive stretch of coast, bordered to the north by Capo Pecora with its dunes and Portixeddu. To the south, two kilometers from the town, there is the splendid inlet of Cala Domestica, a jewel set between limestone cliffs: at the bottom of a fjord guarded by a Spanish tower (18th century), you will find a beach of soft sand with the colours white, amber and golden. Visit the Henry Gallery, now an open-air museum, once crossed by a train carrying the extracted mineral. Buggerru has a port where you can book a boat or dinghy to explore the sea cliffs with their crystal water. Look for Pan di Zucchero, Capo Pecora, and Costa Verde with its famous dunes. To the right of the port, Buggerru beach appears, soft sand washed by the blue sea. To the north you will find the sand dunes of San Nicolò, behind which a lush pine forest emerges, ideal for mountain bike excursions. The beaches are called Is Compingius (the pines) and Is Compingieddus (small pines). Also worth mentioning the Blue Grotto, the sea stacks at Punta dell'Aquila and many cliffs over one hundred meters high, perfect for climbing. Between June and July, don't miss the fish and sea urchin festival. Ideal for those passionate with mountain biking or trekking (it is a stop of the famous Santa Barbara hike) Buggerru is 82 km from Cagliari Elmas airport, 38 km from Iglesias train station and 232 km from Porto Torres port. There is a bus that connects Buggerru with Iglesias and runs along the beaches of San Nicolò and Portixeddu, however it is advisable to travel independently by independent means.
