The tiny, pretty village of Noss Mayo is hidden away on the southern bank of the Yealm Estuary and is home to two good pubs. Across the water is the larger village of Newton Ferrers, and you can get between the two villages by a causeway at low tide and a seasonal ferry that operates a triangular route and calls in at the SW Coastal Path, Noss Mayo and Newton Ferrers. Newton Ferrers has a local butcher, chemist and Post Office. The village pub has fantastic views across the water towards Noss Mayo and the creek. The area is blessed with many walks that meander along the waterside and across the fields, while to the north Dartmoor's high tors and open spaces beckon those who love wild country. The city of Plymouth with its shops, Marine Aquarium and Barbican quayside area is just 10 miles away. Local Attractions: • Saltram National Trust • National Marine Aquarium • Plymouth Ski Slope and Snowboard Centre • SUP Rental • Devon Sailing Experiences Noss Mayo is on one side of the estuary with Newton Ferrers on the other. At low tide you can use the stepping stones to cross to the excellent Swan Inn, The Ship Inn is our local and serves the most scrummy scallops. There is a well stocked community Post Office selling whole foods, Salcombe Bakehouse bread - the sourdough is sublime - cheeses and essentials. The local butcher makes his own Cornish Pasties and sausage rolls. Let me know if you want a Creedy Carver duck and I'll order it and pop it in the fridge. There's also a small CoOp selling wine and other goods. There are three brilliant pubs which all serve food from bar snacks to three course meals The Ship Inn and TheSwan in Noss and the Dolphin in Newton. The Sailing Club also serves fish and chips on Fridays and has lots of great events. It's not a place for parties but if you like slow water sports, walking the coastal path, bird watching or simply messing about on the beach, you'll love it here. And if you do want a city fix Plymouth is a cab ride away and they're celebrating hard this year as its 250 years since the Mayflower landed on the American shores. And if you're driving down we're just off the A38 so super easy to get to.
